In the last decade, we have seen the laptops become smaller, the displays getting thinner, the sounds growing louder , the video getting clearer. But there was no major change in the way of navigation on a laptop, be it with use of mouse or trackpad.
Ideally, both used button clicks or tapping to activate a component on screen.
Finally breaking the monotony, Synaptics has come up with the Forcepad- A new way of navigating the laptop just by the application of pressure on a trackpad. So no more button clicks or tapping.
Interestingly, the forcepad can recognise 64 different levels of sensitivity and multi-touch support is also enabled, which means you can use a maximum of five fingers while working on forcepad.
So all in all, you can use drawing apps, gaming, scrolling through document or surfing the net just by varying the amount of pressure on the forcepad. And the forcepad is thinner, more accurate and has no moving parts. Some more awesome features in this video.

We may get to see this interesting stuff in laptops in early 2013.
