The most expensive domain names ever

It's very much obvious that domain name of your website is an important thing that motivates or propels your business. Imaging having an uber cool domain name, that is very much general yet having a strong impact.
And maybe that is why maybe "thefacebook.com" dropped the "the" from their name to make it "facebook.com" as it more handy though the previous one still works.

I'll start with no 13.

#13) icloud.com

Sold for: $4.5 Million
Year: 2011
No points for guessing.YES! It belongs to Apple. Earlier it belonged to sweden based hybric cloud computing company Xcerion and apple bought it in April 2011.

#12)Toys.com

Sold for: $5.1 Million
Year: 2009
This was bought by famous toy giant Toy RU after a long bid with National A-1 Advertisement company.

#11) Casino.com

Sold for: $5.5 Million
Year: 2003
Where there is money, there are spenders. This is an online gambling website.

#10) Israel.com

Sold for: $5.88 Million
Year: 2008
Now trust me, this dint excite me much. And as strange as the name of domain, even stranger is that it was bought by someone anonymously. And even strange that it still points nowhere.

#09) Beer.com

Sold for: $7 Million
Year: 2004
Now that'something that you always give a higher spot and its quite high in this list too. Purchased by Thought Convergence, this is one of the coolest purchases ever.

#08) Diamond.com

Sold for: $7.5 Million
Year: 2006
Ladies! Are you listening. Someone was willing to pay this whooping amount for this domain just because of your craze. And that guy must be a total optimist who was sure to recover his expenses.

#07) Business.com

Sold for: $7.5 Million
Year: 1999
I personally consider as one of the most handy domain name, just nailed it. And this gigantic amount was paid way back in 1999. Expensive by that time!!

#06) Fb.com

Sold for: $8.5 Million
Year: 2010
Facebook.com was purchased by mere $200,000 in 2005. You can well imagine how much they earned by 2010 to spend this much on a domain.

#05) Porn.com

Sold for: $9.5 Million
Year: 2007
The most notorious in the list, it was purchased by investment firm MXN Limited.

#04) Fund.com

Sold for: $9.99 Million
Year: 2008
This purchase set the record in 2008. Obviously its broken now, as we have 3 more on the list.

#03) Sex.com

Sold for: $13 Million
Year: 2010
"The word Sex sells". Hence Proved!

#02) Insure.com

Sold for: $16 Million
Year: 2009
The online marketing giant QuinStreet’s purchased this at a staggering amount. The same company also bough internet.com in 2009.

#01) Privatejet.com

Sold for: $30 Million
Year: 2012
As expensive it is to have a private jet, this domain name is a tough competition there. Bought by National Luxury transport, this domain name will expire Aug 6,2016. So expensive, and still expire!!!! Hail the buyers!

As they say, records are meant to be broken.

The first female at facebook was an indian

"It was difficult to break into boy's club" is what this girl Ruchi Sanghvi says about her journey at Facebook. Revered for being the first female to be hired into Silicon valley's most celebrated startup , Ruchi Sanghvi has more feathers in her hat. She has been a Software Engineer in Real Time Communication Group at Oracle and has also co-founded Cove.

Currently working as VP Operations at Dropbox, she once mentioned in an interview with BBC that "The culture at Facebook, was something of a change. Programmers came to work in their pajamas, working in an office with walls covered in graffiti, located above a Chinese food place that stank up the whole building. It was also difficult to break into the boys’ club."

Daughter to a businessman father who owned an engineering company supplying equipments for industrial projects and who always mentioned engineering as a boy's field has been the major motivation for her and she wanted to prove him wrong. She has played a key role in some major projects at facebook like the News Feed and also led product management and strategy for facebook platform and facebook connect.

Kudos!

The tech-companies with coolest perks

Working in the NCR region, what could be best facilities that the companies here could provide- hmmm, maybe a TT table, an inhouse gym, late night cab facilities etc. Here have a look at the global giants that give some of the coolest facilities for a technical company.

5) Buy whatever you need @ Asana

A startup by facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz alongwith Justin   rosenstein , Asana provides its employees a stipend of $10,000 to
make their working area their own and "buy whatever they need" as
per their desire for their work area.

4) Zyngolidays @ Zynga

Zynga,  an interactive entertainment and social network service provider gives its employees some random holidays called Zyngolidays decided by CEO and executives. For eg: they gave
a full day off on 20th april this year.

3) Arcade gaming @ Kixeye

The flash gaming company , Kixeye has set up arcade gaming counters in the office premises
for employees who want to take a break from work, every now and then.

2) Build your computer @ Dropbox

An MIT student thought of creating a file hosting and cloud storage company after often
forgetting his USB flash drive during college days, and this
company Dropbox provides its employees a chance to build their own computers, and they also prize this kind of effort.

1) A hell lot of perks @ Google

Google gives so many perks that even the headline could not be a well suited one. And the list goes like, car washes, oil changes, massages, yoga, a play room, back-up child care assistance,
$12000 annual tuition reimbursements and the coolest one being the After life benefits in which if a Googler dies while employed, the surviving partner receives half the salary for next decade, all stocks vested immediately, and children of the daparted receiving $1000 a year, until they are 19, or 23 in case of full time education.

Mouse finally gets a replacement- The Forcepad

In the last decade, we have seen the laptops become smaller, the displays getting thinner, the sounds growing louder , the video getting clearer. But there was no major change in the way of navigation on a laptop, be it with use of mouse or trackpad.

Ideally, both used button clicks or tapping to activate a component on screen.

Finally breaking the monotony, Synaptics has come up with the Forcepad- A new way of navigating the laptop just by the application of pressure on a trackpad. So no more button clicks or tapping.

Interestingly, the forcepad can recognise 64 different levels of sensitivity and multi-touch support is also enabled, which means you can use a maximum of five fingers while working on forcepad.

So all in all, you can use drawing apps, gaming, scrolling through document or surfing the net just by varying the amount of pressure on the forcepad. And the forcepad is thinner, more accurate and has no moving parts. Some more awesome features in this video.

ForcePad Animation from Synaptics, Inc. on Vimeo.

We may get to see this interesting stuff in laptops in early 2013.

Birds are "Super Angry" this time!!

Angry birds is undisputably the most loved game lately and they have been trying really hard to retrieve their golden eggs from green pigs. And adding a new dimension to the game, an interesting project by Andrew Spitz and Hideaki Matsui at Copenhagen Institue of Interactive Design introduced a physical contoller simulating a slingshot.

This slingshot can be connected to your pc using USB and control the speed and direction of angry birds and a separate "TNT" controller to utilise their special powers.

Watch the birds in action and how it works!

Using IE7? Pax extra for shopping with us

In a first of it's kind tax implemented, the Australian retail store kogan.com has put up an extra 6.8% tax on folks using IE7 for their online shopping. It sounds hillarious but as per the Chief Executive of kogan, this tax is meant to recoup the cost and time spent for "rendering the website on an antique browser".

Though only 3% of company's customers use IE7, the total cost involved in making the interface properly dispayed on IE7, the company incurred a cost equal to the combined cost for Safari,Chrome and firefox. And that is why, the tax has been levied.

Meanwhile, IE11 is slated to release next year.

Turning them on- Samsung vs Apple

In response to a lawsuit filed by Apple which says that Samsung devices are so similar that a consumer can mistake them for an Apple product, Samsung chose to clarify by turning on 3 device-2 phones and a tablet to show that Samsung devices are different from the moment they are turned on. Unlike the Apple devices which turn on showing the metallic bitten-apple logo, the Samsung Android series devices splashed with their logo followed by a robotic "Droid" animation.

Later Samsung pointed out that there are a number of steps to be followed before reaching the home screen to see the icons, something that again Apple had accused Samsung of copying. So, in no way they could be accused of being similar to Apple.

Its really surprising to hear the people can mistake a Samsung with Apple, or who buys a device without seeing the packaging or manufacturer. Though there were some cases of people returning Samsung Tablets mistaking them for ipads.

What does "Search" means for Google

"Google Search" is probably the most popular thing by google. And well , now there's a whole empire build around this "Search Engine" company.

And now i am here to share two interesting things about what really Search means for Google.

First one is Google SMS Search. In order to expand the usability of the search engine, Google SMS search is probably a very handy stuff. All you have to do is write a query and SMS to 977-33-00000 and google will send you the result by SMS.

As this is a service for India (Mumbai), hence there are only nominal SMS charges. You can check the weather, hotels, multiplexes and the most importantly you can check the Railway PNR status by sending the PNR number. Cool , isn't it?

Now the second aspect of Google "Search". This one is funnier than the earlier one.
Just go to "Google.com" (read Google.com) and type the word "Search" and hit "i'm feeling lucky" and you will be surprised to see the result.

Happy reading!!!

And the output is a folder with no name, no icon. This will be visible only once you hover on the folder. Just save this folder at one corner of desktop and keep using it without anyone letting it know :)
